Summary
Tarou is a wild-caught sexually mature 27 year old adult male orca. He has been transferred to CTS as his previous facility was closing down. There was a lot of media attention on the closing of Japanese Sea World with many activists wanting the whales and dolphins plus many other marine life to be released back into their native habitat. However due to living in captivity for such a long time, and battling many illnesses, a huge number of the animals were unrelease-able. Tarou has sired many calves in the past, though very few survived into their teens, his daughter Hikari is the only one still live with him. Hikari and Tarou are very close and are often seen swimming side-by-side. Wherever Hikari is, Tarou is not far behind. When Hikari was only 5 years old, her mother passed away from a twisted gut, she also had sereve immune-system problems which lead to a premature death. Since then Tarou has been Hikari's only companion, and it was decided when JSW closed, they would be transferred together to a new facility. Changing Tides in NW America, put forward their facility to take them, and after many meetings and discussions, the pair were flown to Washington state.
Tarou has met most of the orcas currently residing at CTS, however he is still to meet the matriarch, Rayya. Since Zahra's passing in 2028, Rayya has taken lead on the pod, and with a calf by her side it has been decided he will not meet her until Jin is older. Rayya can be unpredictable when with her calves and in recent years has shown aggression towards the other individuals, so for saftey it will be some time before Tarou meets Rayya and Jin.
Tarou gets along well with all the orcas he has met, and is seen most often with Rayne, Kaya and her son Tua. Tarou has been displaced by the older females on several occassions but only through dominance displays, otherwise he is a well integrated member of the pod.
