Summery

In 2025, Bayside Dolphinarium announced that their 12 year old female, Capella was pregnant with her first calf. It was reported that Capella did not take to the pregnancy well though. The already aggressive female only became more aggressive to her trainers and to the lower ranking orcas. By the time she was half way through her pregnancy, trainers were forced to isolate Capella for the safety of the other orcas.

Capella went into labor nearly two months before her due date, much to trainer and veterinarian concern. Still, the birth seemed to go smooth enough. Capella seemed to have little difficulties. The calf born also seemed healthy. She seemed small, but was able to make it to the surface for her first breath without Capella's help. Capella herself seemed to show no interest in the calf however. She vocalized at it, but refused to swim at the calf's side, ignoring the baby's attempts at trying to swim with her.
Capella continued to ignore her until the calf attempted to nurse. Only then did she start jaw popping and violently rammed the calf out of the water.
In dismay, trainers separated the two instantly afterwards.

The young female calf was moved to the isolation pool for care and observation. The ramming hadn't done much damage to the already small calf, but it made her very timid and anxious during later reintroduction attempts. The female calf was later named Nile after an online poll.

Despite being born so early, and being rejected, Nile kept a sweet and playful disposition. She was later reintroduced to Maui and Tiva for companionship. Maui seemed to get along well with the calf and took on a motherly role with her, helping raise the calf alongside the trainers.
Nile proved to be a bit slower to learn than her companions, but she was very playful and energetic and was always interested in new things and learning. Trainers were advised to be calm with the calf as she learned, since she was slow, but she showed a desire to learn. She was trained in basic behaviors as she grew, but her progress remained slow. However, Nile continued to show healthy signs and grew well, despite being a bit small for her age.

After she turned a year, Nile was given a complete health certificate and was sold to Northern Waters Aquarium in 2027.
